Remembering Little Sparrows

by Sudarshan Sreeram | 17-01-2017 16:17 recommendations 1

Folks, recently I visited a relative's home in Mumbai (Bombay), India and happened to spot some sparrows which have become rare in most of the cities in India.  Several causes are correlated to this such as loss of green habitat, expansion of cities, technology and climate variations.  But it is sad to see a species that has been in constant decline since the 1990s.  Recently came across a poem by William Carlos that talks about a typical life cycle of a sparrow.   The statistics show a stady decline in the numbers from around the world.  For example, in Great Britain some part reported a decline as high as 90% whereas in Netherlands the population hs reduced by approximately 70%.  Our future holds for such little birds which face an uncertain future only further reinforces that it is time that we act quicky to protect our habitat.
