Say No to Food Waste: The Healthy Life Cycle of a Clean Plate

by | 24-02-2016 05:43 recommendations 0

Here's how we say no to food waste at my house in Palo Alto, California, USA. First, we try to eat lower down the food chain, since meat takes more energy in the food chain to produce. The photo below shows a healthy breakfast of oatmeal with fruit and nuts.

Second, if there are any leftovers, we save them for our dogs to bolster their nutrition, assuming the food is healthy for dogs (dogs can't eat things like chocolate, grapes, etc., so make sure you do your research as some human foods are toxic for them).

Third, if there are any leftovers in the nature of fruits and vegetables, we give them to our chickens. This helps their diet and makes sure no food whatsoever goes to waste. In turn, they give us fresh eggs and healthy composted soil for our vegetable garden. That's the healthy lifecycle of a clean plate at my house!

Nice report Dante :) I like how you not only prevent food wastage but also feed the excess food to your dog and the chickens.
