Global Wind Day -15th June - is a day for taking the energy debate – switching to renewables from fossil fuels, supporting wind power – out of the realm of policy and in to the real world. In short, Global Wind Day is the international annual day for discovering wind power. It is also a chance for the public, politicians, and industry officials to discuss wind energy and its benefits, sharing ideas, exchanging opinions, and deepening their knowledge and understanding along the way. On 15 June, thousands of people will gather at over 200 events across the globe to discover wind energy as part of Global Wind Day. Global Wind Day offers both wind energy enthusiasts and novices opportunities to visit wind farms, discover the technology and its benefits and to have fun at one of the many festivals and open days on offer. While the events of Global Wind Day are widespread, all involved are united by a belief in the importance of advocating for green energy. Across Europe, wind farms are open, wind energy is the theme of festivals Today on the eve of Global Wind Day , I would like to share with you some knowledge about wind energy , wind mills and wind farm . Wind can be used as a reliable, clean source of renewable energy. Wind energy has been used by people for thousands of years. Today, wind energy is mainly used to generate electricity using wind turbines.
Wind turbines convert the energy of moving air or wind into electricity. Most modern wind turbines consist of three blades, connected to a tall tower via a hub. A wind farm is a group of wind turbines connected electrically. Each wind turbine generates electricity independently but shares common cabling to connect to the main power grid. The location of each wind turbine is chosen to maximise its efficiency. In Brussels on the eve of Global Wind Day : From Monday 3 June to 15 June, winners and runners up in the Global Wind Day photo competition are having their photos displayed in the European Parliament. Meanwhile, in Spain from 3-15 June the special Global Wind Day lottery tickets are released. Some five million special tickets have been printed, in association with ONCE – the Spanish association for blind people, and the lottery will be drawn on Global Wind Day itself. Many countries around the world have started using wind turbines for power generation. Source : http://www.ewea.org |

Not sure of usefulness of such projects in UAE as it is not very windy most of the time. Solar Energy can be harnessed more here.
