Workshop In Sri Lanka |

I have always believed in the quote, ?success is gained by sharing knowledge not hoarding it?, so on. This summer I actually wanted to share my knowledge and educate people on various environmental issues. I did this under the guidance and mentorship of my brother who is an ambassador to Tunza-Eco generation. The workshop was going to be held in Sri Lanka. At first we didn't know what topic to talk about but then we decided to select global warming and upcycling. Before the workshop we did a lot of preparation like we made presentations and illustrative videos on our topic. We also made scripts and an agenda for the event. When the day of the workshop arrived we were very excited as it was a completely new experience for me. There were around 50 20-year olds for the workshop. The workshop was held in a small classroom with poor ventilation. But when we saw the enthusiasm and smiling faces of the participants, we felt motivated. We started the workshop by introducing ourselves and giving them brief information on our topic. The audience seemed very inquisitive and involved when we were explaining. After our introduction speech we showed them our presentation on all the work we had done so far. Then we explained about global warming and the effects of it. We also spoke about the energy crises going on in the world currently. Next we showed them an animated video made by me on global warming. The video ended by showing ways to reduce global warming and one of the ways was to recycle. So the next activity was upcycling. We had three activities planned for upcycling. We showed step by step processes to make jewellery out of straws, a multi purpose container out of paper and a flower out of a plastic bottle. The students found the multipurpose container very appealing as they could use it in their houses and it was very eco-friendly. After the upcycling event was done we showed them another video on the importance of water. After all the presentations and videos were done, it was time for the most compelling part of the event?..THE QUIZ! We had listed down a few questions related to what we taught them and some were higher order thinking questions on the environment. The first round of the quiz went very well but in the second round the questions became a little harder so there were very few people answering. By the end of all the rounds we had 3 finalists and we decided to give presents to the winners?so we gave them dictionaries in the order of their rank. We also gave out Tunza Eco-generation pamphlets, pens and pads to the remaining students. They felt very encouraged and I was very delighted to see that smile on their face when they got their gifts. In return the organisation had also planned a present for us. They asked all of us to plant a tree in their backyard. It was a really nice gesture from their end. |
