Emirates Environment Group (EEG) is one of the most  professional working groups in the U.A.E since 1991. With more than 2,000 volunteers from across UAE, EEG considered as one of the most active environmental NGO's in the region. The overall objective of EEG is to contribute positively to the advancement of sustainable development in Dubai and the UAE by acting as a focal point for people of all nationalities and ages concerned with environmental protection and responsible waste management.

Paper is required and used for anything and everything one can think of. With hundreds of uses, paper satisfies many important human needs. In fact, it is an integral part of everyday life. By using paper carelessly, we contribute to the depleting forest cover, drastic climate change and water pollution. To put an end to this issue and do my bit towards the environment I decided to recycle paper and enter a recycling campaign.

One of EEG's first recycling campaigns was paper recycling. Since the 1990s, it has collected 9,115,782 kg of paper from its members. I have been an active members of EEG since the past 4 years. I had recently taken part in EEG's "Neighbourhood Recycling Campaign" in which I had to collect 500 kgs of paper within the span of two weeks.

I started my collection by segregating the waste papers at my own house. But that wasn?t enough, I  realised I would have to visit my neighbours and collect waste papers from them too. It took me around four days to reach my 150 kilograms target and within the next few days I reach 300. I decided it was time deposit the amount of newspapers I had as my house was getting pretty cramped up with all the papers. Once that was done I continued collecting wastepapers till I reached my final target which was 500 kgs. While I was collecting papers I didn?t know I had reached 500kgs already so I continued so when I went back home I measured how much did it was and I realised I had done 587 kgs. I was really proud of myself and the hard work I put in for this result. I am really glad I was able to collect this much and make a difference. I will definitely participate in this campaign next year too and I will aim for a higher target.
