Melting of Glacier, causes and effects

by Sachin Regmi | 27-01-2019 20:46 recommendations 0

Glacier are snow rivers on high Himalayas. In Nepal they are source of major rivers like Gandaki, Koshi, Karnali which originate in Himalayan region and runs throughout. Although their melting is a natural process, their dramatic melting which we see now isn¡¯t normal. The natural process is due to difference in temperature as we decent the altitude but the rapid melting may be associated with global warming resulting from industrial greenhouse gases. Other things like rapid urbanization, deforestation and smokes are responsible for global warming. With the increase in global temperatures, glacier ice is melting faster. This will lead to rise in sea level which will have direct effect on sea costs, humans and aquatic lifeforms. In addition, glaciers also absorb heat from sun and reflect the remaining one, with disappearance of ice the earth will now receive more heat contributing to more increment in global temperature.
