Garden on Roof

by Bishwash Dhungel | 28-08-2019 17:17 recommendations 0

Healthy and chemical free meal at least two times a day is everyone¡¯s needs, right?

¡°Of course¡± will be everyone¡¯s answer. But when you live in vast, big and heavily resided area like Kathmandu, it is very much hard to find the land to build your house then where can you find the area to cultivate the vegetables. And above this situation the vegetables found in market can¡¯t be trusted.

So what¡¯s the solution then? Well, the solution is literally above us. Yes, a small yet sufficient place to grow some vegetables in the big, crowded and small places like Kathmandu.

During my short visit of Kathmandu last week I saw a small garden on the roof of the place where I lived. Vegetables like pepper and tomatoes were being grown on fish crates. Certainly, I asked the owner about the vegetables grown and the method he follows.  He said ¡°I can¡¯t grow a whole lot amount of vegetables in this place but small but frequently used veggies like chilly and tomatoes can be grow in small area so I bought these fish crates and filled it with soil which I bought from village and started growing vegetables in these crates. I don¡¯t use much of anything just water and cow dung once in a while.¡±

I was absolutely fascinated by this. It¡¯s a great way of spreading green in this big hectic city and also reducing chemicals in our diet.
