Harmful effects of cremation and awareness about electric crematorium.

Being a resident from kathmandu, cremation at pashupati on the bank of bagmati river has always got my eyes. Pashupatinath is a temple which is a sacred place for hindus and is also important from tourism point of view. Although it has a religious importance, the open cremation causes emission of toxic gases like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulphide, sulphur dioxides, methane.
After researching about this issue i found out that city authorities have started electric crematorium few years back. An electric crematorium can help minimize this harmful affect .Each funeral consumes up to 250kg of firewood and there are at least 35 cremations a day at Pashupati alone. Most of the firewood comes from community forests in Dhading, and the electric crematorium will save more than 9,000 kg of firewood a day. But however, most people don't seem to be impressed with this idea as conservative Nepalis would not like to abandon the rituals of the traditional wood. Moreover ,people aren't aware about the bad effects cremation has on the environment.
