7 Reasons to Care About the Environment

by Carol Evenson | 31-12-2020 07:39 recommendations 0

Dire predictions about global warming and other environmental threats have been in the news for several decades. However, there are still people who are not convinced they need to take steps to protect the environment. These are seven reasons you should care about the environment.

1. Protects the Food Supply

Global temperatures have been on the rise and scientists are warning that if a course correction isn't made soon, climate change could have devastating impacts on weather patterns, ocean levels and more. These changes affect both plants and animals. Some species of plants and animals may not be able to survive in the new climate conditions because of changes in temperature, lack of water and other factors. As more plants and animals die out, food shortages for humans are likely to follow. The good news is, there are things people can do to reduce their impact on the environment, such as eating a plant-based diet and incorporating supplements such as red superfood powder, while reducing the consumption of animal products.

2. Provides Us a Place to Live

It may sound like a cliche, but the Earth is the only home you have. If climate change, drought, pollution and other man-made environmental disasters make the Earth unlivable, there is nowhere else for humanity to go.

3. Keeps Animals From Going Extinct

Human activity significantly impacts the ecosystem. Some of these impacts have caused many species of animals to go extinct and put others in danger of following. Pollution in the air, water and soil kills the animals that live there. Additionally, the destruction of forests, wetlands and other habitats have left many animals with nowhere to live.

4. Improves Human Health

Pollution in the air and water can spread infectious diseases, cause cancer, cause respiratory illnesses and create other health problems. Research has found that air pollution is linked with premature death, asthma, heart attacks, bronchitis and more. If you think you can escape the effects of air pollution by staying indoors, studies have found that indoor environments are even more contaminated than outdoor environments.

5. Protects Biodiversity

The continuing survival of life on Earth is dependent upon biodiversity. Biodiversity refers to the variety of life on Earth and how it interacts with each other. Examples of how biodiversity is important include plants providing the oxygen humans breathe, bees pollinating crops, trees absorbing air pollution and more. When human actions result in a decrease in biodiversity, it upsets the balance of different species working together and lowers the chance of survival.

6. Preserves Raw Materials

Most of the products you rely on every day, from the house you live in, to the chair you are sitting on and the electronic device you are using to read this article rely on raw materials that come from the environment. As human activity depletes forests, water sources, oil, natural gas, coal and other resources, the supply of raw materials to produce goods and services is reduced.

7. Affects the Quality Of Life For Future Generations

Many of the people engaging in environmentally damaging activities today won't be around to see the drastic impacts of their actions. However, their children and grandchildren will be. If you want future generations to have breathable air, drinkable water and tolerable weather conditions, you need to take action that preserves the environment today. If you blow it off because it isn't going to affect you, it may be too late to reverse the damage by the time environmental conditions are devastating future generations.

Conclusion

Protecting the environment is critical for the health of the planet and everything that lives on it. Doing your part to help the environment today, ensures there will be a tomorrow for future generations.
