Step Towards the Clean Water: Aeration Technique

Water has always been an important part of human life, from helping the survival thousands years ago to supporting the economy. However, industrial activities and certain chemicals in water threaten this source. Especially the industrial discharges that had polluted the water and killed myriad organisms. This has been an issue for decades and the world is working on to solve it today. Aeration technique is one of the potential methods that could be widely used across the countries as a solution to water pollution along with other problems related to water.

River self purification itself through aeration as the machine increases dissolved oxygen level. According to the study conducted by Indah R S Salami and Dea Putri Pradita, aeration reduced the pollution levels and toxicity of water. As of 2020, the year when the study took place, they saw that the method had potential to be used in cleaning the water.

Aeration solves other problems associated with water too. It prevents water from having taste or odor problems. It also limits algae bloom, an increasing problem that people don't pay much attention to; especially in developing countries like the Philippines. Not only that, but it solves the problem caused by different seasons. In summer, warm temperature fastens the rate of oxygen use and results in a situation where oxygen diffusion can't keep up with the demand of it. This is one of the most common ways fish die in summer. Problems arise in winter as well. Ice stops the air entering into the water and algae decays faster in this condition where there isn't much oxygen.

The appliance of aeration technique to the improvement of water quality is proved in many studies. Scientists have been going beyond this, doing lots of experiments to create more efficient aeration machines. It's time to apply this technique all around the globe to protect the world!
