Did you ever think that you could drink recycled water? That water that goes down your sink drain can actually be purified and reused. But, the process isn't very simple.
Here in Singapore there is a company called NEWater that reclaims water by filtering it through special membranes, then further purifying it with UV light. In a tiny island surrounded by saltwater, we have had to come up with new ideas to get fresh water. Today, about 1% of fresh water that comes from our taps is actually recycled water! Some people might think it is disgusting to drink water that once went down the drain. But, we use other things in daily life like recycled glass bottles, recycled paper and recycled plastics that might have held something unsavoury in a past incarnation. So, we really shouldn't be concerned about recycled water. If it is pure... it is pure.
