Forest encroachment in Nepal

by | 14-01-2014 17:18 recommendations 0

Forests provide a wide range of regulating, cultural and supporting services for human well-being collectively known as ecosystem services. The sustainability of forest Eco-system requires careful management, efficient utilization and effective protection measures against deforestation and forest degradation. In a mountainous country such as Nepal, forests are important for the protection of water catchments, the conservation of soil and the maintenance of biodiversity, as well as for their contributions to sustainable rural livelihoods and the maintenance of the environment. It is imperative to develop common understanding of the effects of forest degradation among the users of forests, forest managers, policy-makers and politicians so that appropriate public policy to address it can be developed.
Many hectares of land were encroached by the people of Hilly Region in the Churia belt of Terai Region. Around 400 huts were set on fire. And two of the encroach were  arrested.
So, we the youths should take initiative to help the bodies which are conserving the environment and ecology as a whole. In the picture, illegally made huts are set on fire by the District Forest Office (DFO), and the next one is me myself helping the DFO to destroy the crops grown ijn the land where once forest used to be there.

The illegally made huts in the Churia Range are set on fire by the District Forest Office, Dhanusha. I helped the District Forest Office to remove the maize farm of the illegally settled people (encroachers) in the Churia Range of Nepal.

No matter whatever the law is, unless and until poverty is eradicated from the entire world this type of activities will take place in the near future. Can any of you suggest me what can we do. I am planning to carry out a environment conservation project and i need suggestions and supports. You can mail me at "ashishsharma__63@live.com" as well.

Appreciative efforts. Encroachment is deplorable. Heavy hand of law must be applied to shun this Practice

@Ashish Thank you for the additional information. Then it's also related with the poverty problem in Nepal again. I wish it can be solved by wise agreement of both of local government and illegal migrants.

Actually, Terai Region of the country is regarded as the green belt of the country and is fertile and is good for settlement. So, the people of Hilly Region illegally migrate to Terai Region and cut down the trees and make their settlement there.
