The quest to live sustainably in a rapidly advancing world

In our modern busy lives, phrases like ?going green? has almost become a buzzword. We hear of stores going green, products made of eco-friendly material & food that is better for our environment and while some of it may be true, it is my belief that a majority of those who follow these trends do so while failing to understand the heart of the issue.

They fail to understand that buying eco-friendly products does not give you permission to let taps run incessantly & eating organic food does not mean we let food go to waste & rot in landfills.

But there is a growing minority of people, people who have a strong sense of conviction that being eco-friendly means a combination of best practices & sustainable living that sustainable living is not some ephemeral fad but a lifestyle that everyone can adopt.

This minority of convinced individuals is mostly young they realize that if the world that we live have to be a better place & if change has to begin, it has to start at the grass root level. And so they increase their depth of knowledge & absorb the information that will keep them like sponges. They then put into practice those tips &methods of living by judiciously using the resources-be it through steps as simple as switching off electrical appliances , turning off taps when not in use to taking big steps like planting trees, recycling etc.

It is after applying these practices & skills that they have gleaned that they spread awareness among the general public & urge them to use their resources better by promoting methods of sustainable living.

So be it through our washing machine that washes clothes only on full load, helping to spread awareness about conserving our environment in its truest sense, it is my firm belief that we can make a positive difference in this world.

Nicely written , Aasha. Agree with you that simply by saying "Go Green" 100 times is not enough if you are not following the sustainable practices in your day to day life.
