This Earth day came with a brilliant opportunity to introduce students to several environment related topics. Along with our school nature club I conducted a short program at our school auditorium witnessed by around 700 students and 50 teachers which was both entertaining and enlightening.
We had a few short speeches followed by students performing the song 'Heal the World'. I then gave a presentation on the proceedings of the TUNZA Asia Pacific Youth Conference at Ahmedabad which I was fortunate to attend.
I then introduced them to the organisation that I had made called AD Youth and what our ambitions were. We gathered a huge number of supporters for the organisation which is yet to be officially launched and many wanted to be members. I will post a detailed article on the organisation.
Most importantly we introduced the students to the spotlight conference of the year - the Rio+20 Earth Summit. We concentrated on how the youth can be a part of this conference and established a connection on how our organisation facilitates the debate and discussion of ideas inspired by the youth.
To mark the occasion we made sure to switch off all lights and air-conditioners for the day and opened our windows for light and the cool spring breeze. Overall it was a truly productive, entertaining and enlightening program that indeed made the Earth Day deliver a strong message to the students.
