Hello Tunza Eco-Generation ! In this report I am covering up the latest happenings in India on the fields of environment, climate change and government policies, discoveries!

In a first of its kind initiative, India is off to a great start in establishing the first ever offshore wind power project in the country. A 100 MW Project is about to come up in the coast of Gujarat. The MoU for the project has been signed by the government offices of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, National Institute of Wind Energy, and Consortium of partners which consists of National Thermal Power Corporation, Power Grid Corporation of India etc. The project is a great opportunity to develop the state of renewable energy resources in the nation which would benefit the entire power scenario of the country with rising economy. Renewable energy sources have immense benefits over the non-renewable resources. The project would help to reduce the power crisis in the country. I?d like to highlight how it can help in overcoming the crisis of power sector: It is one of the purest and cleanest forms of renewable energy which can be used up to an infinite extent and available in plenty. Wind energy usage can help reduce fossil fuels consumption. If the method is used and adopted widely, then use of petroleum and other non-renewable products can be highly reduced which in turn can minimize the emission of green house effect and global warming. Till the life on earth exists, wind energy will be available continuously. It doesn?t pollute the environment and wind plays a major role in forming the geological phenomenon. It activates green mode with the nature with high productivity and efficiency on energy power production. Countries with large coastal areas can benefit much more if such initiatives are taken up. For example: a country like India with an approximate coastline of 7500km can be immensely benefited if such initiatives are taken by the government in rule. The initiatives can create jobs which is likely to reduce the problem of unemployment.

In order to minimize the problem of water pollution, the Government of India has taken a landmark step by launching ?Zero Liquid Discharge? project. The man aim of the project is to stop the drain flow from municipal and industrial wastes directly into the rivers. The ?Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD)? is an organized concept taken forward by the policy makers and environmentalists in which the wastes generated by the industrial and the municipal societies, can be reused after recycling without discharging any harmful pollutants into the water bodies.

It is true that with increasing extreme climatic conditions biodiversity resources are losing its charm and flora and fauna are getting extinct. Many of the species are in a state of vulnerability and extinction. But, as we know science has its own beauty and mystery. One of the best amphibian scientists, also widely known as ?The Frogman of India?, Dr. S.D Biju and his research team from University of Delhi has discovered seven new species of golden-backed frogs. It was found in the global hotspot of Western Ghats-Sri Lanka. Now, he has become among the top three scientists in the discovery of vertebrates of this 21st century.

In a recent event, the Periyar Tiger Reserve which accounts for 940 sq. Kms forest land, in Kerala, has come out with amazing discovery in an accomplished mass survey in October 23-26th. The survey was conducted by scientists, environmentalists and students. Rare species of butterflies (Baby Five Ring) have been found out in the survey. The last survey which was held 22 years ago found 167 species while in the recent survey it spiked to 246 species which itself is good news for the biodiversity community in combating climate change and vulnerability.

International Climate Conference 2015: Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) in collaboration with International Academy of Astronautics and the International Institute of Space Law will hold an international conference o climate change from February 26th. It will be one of the biggest climate change conference so far of such a magnitude in which nearly 500 climate geoscientists and policy makers from different government agencies would take part in it. The important issues like climate change, disaster management, ensuring environmental sustainability among many other topics are to be discussed thoroughly. The conference would address sharing of knowledge and scientific research information with the countries participating. The ultimate objective of the upcoming conference is to tackle climate change together and to help narrow the knowledge resource gap between the nations.

    Awesome news Abliash
it's good to neighbour country moving towards clean energy.
I loved ZLD project as well. Through ZLD, 3R concept can be implemented at higher level.
We generally pollute the river and later invest heavily to clean it. Hope ZLD changes those norms kudos to Dr, SD Buji for his great effort.
Hats off to toil of Periyar Tiger Reserve.
Let's hope we get some concrete solution to existing environmental problems through KSCSTE

Thanks for sharing the exciting information about 5 different matters. My comments are:
    1. Wind power project: This 100 mw project must be followed by more initiatives of such kinds where wind power is immense. India is duly capable to take big strides in this direction.
    2. Zero Liquid Discharge project: This is very important for the industries to realize their CSR & stop polluting rivers by recycling the waste generated by them.
    3. Discovering 7 new species of golden-backed frogs by Dr. S.D Biju is commendable. He is doing a great noble job.
    4. Sustainability of Periyar Tiger Reserve: Kudos to authorities to maintain the park in a way so that Rare species of butterflies & many more species are discovered recently.
    5. Looking forward to KSCSTE in Feb-2015. Pls do share more info in this regard.

I fully agree, Abhilash, that climate change can be tackled by collective efforts at all levels in all countries.
