GREEN HOPE'S ECOCONFERENCE - THE ROLE OF YOUTH IN THE POST2015 AGENDA |
---|
Young people are the ?Future Generations? and they must have a defining say in developing the road map towards a sustainable , equitable and just world. This was the rationale and objective behind the epoch making ?EcoConference? organized by Green Hope UAE on 18th October . Titled ?The Role of Youth in the Post2015 Agenda? - this conference brought 200 young people from schools and universities across the UAE, under one roof at the auditorium of The Westminster School, and provided an unique engagement platform for them to voice their views, demands, aspirations and concerns regarding various current issues ranging from climate change , land degradation , carbon emissions and gender bias. The summit commenced with a tree planting session at Mushrif Park. Green Hope UAE believes tree planting to be the simplest and most effective way of combatting land degradation and mitigating climate change and the conference participants planted scores of saplings as a mark of solidarity towards this cause. This activity was made possible with the support of Dubai Municipality who provided the young people with this fulfilling opportunity. The conference featured a panel discussion where several professionals and experts from marketing, social media, organic foods, natural farming and health enlightened the participants on the different facets of sustainable development. The conference ended with youth drafting the outcome document which demanded inclusivity and empowerment for young people who are the future generations. The youth demanded that education was fundamental to sustainable development as was gender equality and empowerment of women. Climate justice and the need to promote sustainable consumption were two other aspects which formed a part of the outcome statement. http://www.dubaiprnetwork.com/pr.asp?pr=92929 |

yputh play pivotal role to fulfill all those MDGs which couldn't be completed. Unless youth talent and power are unleashed, we cannot expect better tomorrow.
The participant did great job by planting trees, simple yet most effective way to sole ongoing environmental problems though at small level :)

Young people are required to be included in the decision making as we are the main sufferers of the climate change.
Thanks for sharing a good event, Kehkashan.
