---|
by Rohan Kapur | 01-11-2014 17:10 0 |
Today is the Public Transport day in Dubai, UAE. This time it will be celebrated over a week.
RTA, The Road & Traffic Public Transport Agency in Dubai has organised many events & they will be giving away prizes with a combined value of AED 1 Million (272,000 US$)
The authorities encourage the public to leave their cars & use public transport. This will help reduce carbon emissions & pollution. Many high profile Govt. Employees use public transport & motivate the public to do so. They will organize blood donation camps also. If a person donates blood today, they will gift a pair of sunglasses worth AED 1,000 (US$ 272). In 10 days time Dubai Tram will commence its services. This will help to use integrated public transport by the Public.

UAE is really improving in terms of technology. I believe technology can be a good answer in reducing pollution and further for the protection and sustainability of the environment. This kid of transportation reduces traffic and further help to sustain the good quality of air.

@ Prashant: Quality & efficiency of Dubai public transport is world class, without any doubt.
Still, many people who are living near to metro or bus stations, use their cars more than public transport.
It is important to encourage & motivate them.

Thanks for the stats Manav.
This year RTA is not providing the free rides as they were doing for past many years.
I hope this trend will continue and more people use the public transport on regular basis.

Public transportation in the UAE plays a primary yet a vital role in reducing the nation??s greenhouse gas emissions and reducing reliance on oil. Last year, this initiative of RTA (Roads & Transport Authority) was a massive success. An estimated 900,000 people travelled by public transport, taking advantage of unlimited free trips to mark the fourth edition of the Roads and Transport Authority??s annual Public Transport Day. Many roads in Dubai were free of traffic as people left their cars at home for a day to use other modes of transport, which resulted in an estimated 10 per cent reduction in Dubai??s CO2 emissions generated through vehicular traffic. With initiatives like this one, UAE accelerates towards a green economy.
Thanks for the report, Rohan.
