Unilever Philippines Collection for Sachet Recovery Project

by Bam Azores | 09-05-2015 18:07 recommendations 0

Our Sachet Recovery Project continues to be a success.  This project has people collecting sachets (softaflextic wrappers) of household products like detergent, conditioner, shampoo, soap and toothpaste.  These are commonly used in households in the Philippines specially because they are cheaper than buying in big bulk.

Unilever Philippines coordinates this project with the CLEAR Youth Network with whom our Friends of the Seven Lakes Foundation Youth is affiliated.   This is part of the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan and through this they are able to take back their sachets and other brands and convert them into ecobricks.

Thank you very much to the San Pablo City Department of Education which adopted the Sachet Recovery Project. Since it was announced in November 2014 to the different public elementary and high schools in the City, the students were able to collect and bring in sachets to their schools.

The public schools of San Pablo City were able to collect a total of 340.55 kilos for the first quarter of 2015.  These sachets if improperly disposed could have ended up in landfills or waterways.

When this project was launched to the Department of Education, we were told that 170 kilos of sachets is equivalent to 1,000 ecobricks.  In total,  San Pablo City turned over 340.55 kilos to Unilever, which would be equivalent to 2,000 ecobricks that can be used for construction and landscaping in the schools.  Collection of sachets in San Pablo City was on May 9, 2015. Unilever also picked up sachets from the towns of Rizal and Pila in Laguna province.
