EEG Annual Awarding Ceremony for 2014

by | 04-06-2015 02:42 recommendations 0

The Emirates Environmental Group, for many years has spearheaded the movement of creating a culture of recycling in the UAE. This process has been implemented via two mediums education and action. The means to any change through education without action, success can never be achieved. With that in mind, EEG started a plethora of action programmes in the form of recycling campaigns to actively engage the community in the UAE.

EEG?s Recycling Campaigns started off during the year 1997 and the past 18 years have seen immense growth in participation and impact. EEG hosts eight major recycling campaigns – Paper, Plastic, Aluminum Cans, Toners, Mobile Phones, Glass, Beverage Cartons and Safe disposal of household batteries. These campaigns welcome participation from all sectors of society public and private organizations, academic institutions, individuals and families from across the country. The efforts of these participants over these past many years has truly made a positive difference towards building a sustainable future for the UAE and greatly reducing the carbon footprint of the country.

As an active participant in EEG?s Battery Collection Campaign 2014, I was placed in the Top Ten Bracket of the participants.

The much-awaited event took place on the 28th of May in which many visionaries in the environmental sector gave commendable speeches, including the chairperson of EEG, on the vital importance of World Environment Day (although prior June 5th). They also added that it is community recycling campaigns that act as the impetus for environmental protection and sustainable living.

EEG has been really doing good job in teaching us environmental values, encouraging us for recycling and mindful waste management. Their "neighbourhood recycling campaign" , "Your can for a tree" campaign all have been very successful and has been involving many residents.
Congrats to you for coming in top 10 contributors. Keep it up , Manav.
