|BRAZIL| World Summit Climate and Territories

by Luiz Bispo | 31-07-2015 09:05 recommendations 0

On 1st and 2nd of July, São Paulo city joined the World Summit Climate and Territories. The event happened in Lyon (France) and São Paulo was represented by the environmental secretary of Brazilian ministry.

This is aimed to set up strategies to the COP2 which is a climate change conference of the United Nations. The Brazilian city is one of the most polluted cities in the world. Nevertheless, it cooperates with climate change. That is why, São Paulo city was fundamental to the summit.

In the event some topics were discussed. They follow bellow:

1.      Low Carbon Economy and jobs

2.      Forests

3.      Agriculture

4.      Mobility and Transports

5.      Climate Finance

Two objectives below:

Present concrete commitments from a whole range of territorial players. The greenhouse gas emission reduction announcements made in Lyon will contribute to developing a credible path to limiting global warming to 2degree.

Submit specific proposals for commitments from non-state actors to be acknowledged in a bold climate agreement in Paris.

Quote : UCLG

The world is facing serious climate issues and fortunately events like this can create ways to fix up some damages that we, humans, have done so far.

It is great that people from different places around the world get together to share ideas, strategies, knowledge and experiences. We are the only one to change. We are used to use our natural sources with no environmental awareness and lack of responsibility facing the Earth.

I heard that  about 800 people were participated in this summit . The elected officials across the world and representatives from each fields such as governments, international organizations and climate experts etc.  I hope that I could join and have chance to share ideas with them.

Brazil's active participation in COP2 shows that they are working against climate change.Climate change has emerged to be a huge problem today and I feel that all the nations need to start taking the appropriate steps from today.Such conferences which discuss these issues contribute to the society.

Arushi, actually São Paulo is one of the most polluted city and not the most one. It is a shame and we are working out to solve it. Unfortunately as well, worst than São Paulo there are cities such as Mexico City, Xanghai and Delhi. Hope that these countries can create sustainable solutions!!! =D Thanks for the comment!

This is great to know the commitment and concern of Brazil for combating climate change through upcoming COP 21, Paris. Setting specific goal by each actors and non- actor stakeholders is a need and demand of time as the climate change is upsurging.
