Do you have any idea where is the highest, driest and coldest continent in the world? The answer is South Pole called Antarctic!! As people know, this place has scientific and environmental value as the world's last great wilderness. Furthermore, Antarctic play a pivotal role in the global environmental system.  

 

In Antarctic, there are research stations from different countries, which constructed on rocks or ices. Currently there are about 70 of research stations built in Antarctic and Brazil base called "The Comandante Ferraz Antarctic Base"began its operation in 1984 on Keller Peninsula, Admiralty Bay, on King George Island.

 

Unfortunately, there was a huge incident in this Brazil research station in Antarctic in 2012. During marine research, a fire broke out caused by explosion. While destroying the base, two died in fire, and scientists had been evacuated in Chile and later they were taken to Brazil.

 

That time, 70% of station was destroyed including installations which scientist study with it about the effect of climate change, the atmosphere, and coastal and marine ecosystems. A loss of US$12.4million of material could be estimated.

 

In 2013, Brazil planed to reopen the bigger and modern research station in Antarctic and had the 24th Meeting of Latin American Managers of Antarctic Programmes (RAPAL) in Chile to expand their research.

 

Last year, Brazil opened bid to reconstruct the research station. This project was expected to cost total up to $110.5million. That time, Hyundai (Korea) and Kaefer (Germany), Chinese and UK companies, as well as consortia from Spain, Chile, and Monaco had shown an interest.

 

On May, 2015, China-based CEIEC was selected to reconstruct Brazil's research station as offering the lowest price $99.6million. The navy expected the CEIEC will launch the project in December and proceed until at least March 2016.
