Pesticides- Boon or a Bane? |

Mankind has been fighting with the insects that attack their all kinds of cultivation.
We know about the cloudy swarms of grasshoppers that would consume a whole field of crops within minutes. We are also aware how insects would eat up the vegetables in the gardens. There are so many kinds of fungal diseases that infest crops and vegetables. Our crude answer has been to use various kinds of pesticides and insecticides. Improved and hybrid kinds of seeds have helped us a lot but, they are more prone to be attacked by insects, especially in developing nations like India, farmers rely more upon heave use of pesticides. they are hardly aware that a large part of this pesticide reach their stomachs. The chemical companies feel gratified by producing pesticides, going beyond using standard materials in specific quantity. They are producing pesticides to kill , to kills the insects and to kill humans, though very slowly. But, we are also killing such magnificent and benevolent insects like the bees. I can remember how we would find beehives hanging from trees or sticked to the ceiling of old buildings or water tanks. The bees have lost their direction and lives under the effect of unbridled use of cheap insecticides. Nobody in India is sure about the purity of honey that they can only buy only as a packaged food item. A very sorrowful loss is that of Goraiyas , the homely birds that used to perch around in rural India. There used to be plenty of them and there are now none of them. Neither they are seen now, nor can anybody write a poem about them, nor can any mother run after a Goraiya to cheer her child up. |

We have shifted from natural methods to use of harmful pesticides for the purpose of getting rid of insects.Yes,they accumulate in our bodies.And not only that,these chemicals harm insects like bees.Goraiyas are no longer a visible sight,because of pesticides.We have to create awareness and avoid the usage of these chemicals.Thanks for reporting.

It is truly heart-rending to read about the gradual disappearance of Goraiyas and the bees in the cultivation fields of India. Pesticides have sadly replaced natural means of getting rid of pests in the field and caused tremendous harm to land and water resources:(. Thanks for accentuating this issue via this report, Yagya:)

It is indeed sad that there are no more Goraiyas and this is due to our excessive use of pesticides. These days there are biological weed controls and natural pesticides known. Awareness should be increased and farmers must be trained and encouraged to use these natural pesticides. Thanks for your report ,Yagya.
