Have you heard about Pantanal? It is well-known for the world's largest freshwater wetland. However, if you have ever seen that places even one time, you will be very surprised with a beauty! Furthermore, Pantanal has rich biodiversity and range of species, which will people think that human is not the only creature enjoying this world. I would like to introduce about Pantanal today.

One of the world's great natural wonders, Pantanal also generates economic benefits. This area has important functions such as groundwater, climate stabilization and transport system.

In addition to that, Pantanal creates numerous ecosystem services including carbon sequestration, water purification, and regulation of rainfall and river flows.

However, this region is not popular and untouched much by humans. Pantanal has faced the uncertain future due to poor management and been overshadowed by Amazon despite their outstanding landscapes and prominent environmental and economic values.

Let me tell you some facts about Pantanal!

- The Pantanal size is about the U.S. state of Georgia.

- The Pantanal is home for 740 species of birds

- It is habitats for threatened species such as giant river otters, hyacinth macaws, and white-lipped peccaries.

- The Pantanal has the value as maintaining local biodiversity.

In the beginning, only small scale of cattle ranching is practiced but major water control and unsustainable ranching practice has been increased. Intensive cultivation of this area has ruined the landscape and cause deforestation, which resulted in climate change, accelerated erosion and degradation of water quality.

WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society) helps to conserve natural resources by introducing the sustainable land use practice and at the same time put an effort to make profit efficiently.

Furthermore, important landscapes species has been studied by WCS and focuses on youth of environmental ambassadors to increase the community awareness.
