Korean peninsular struggles over green-algae problem

by | 08-08-2012 21:45 recommendations 0

Green-algae is spreading fast in major Korean rivers, and if it does not rain in couple of days, the Han-river, main river which provides drinking water to the citizen of Seoul will be covered in green-algae as well.

The Seoul city government said Tuesday that it is waiting for results from the National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) on the toxicity of the green algae and for the amount of clay to be spread in the rivers. The city has prepared 12 tons of red clay powder to alleviate the problem.

Government claims the high temperature and long drought would be the source of this current problem;however, environmental activists blame government's massive development of four river which slows the water flow and damage the eco-system would be the reason.
