One report came in our Indian TV that, Millions Herring fishes are seen floating dead Tuesday Feb. 5 2013 in Kolgrafafjordur, a small fjord on the northern part of Snaefellsnes peninsula, west Iceland, for the second time in two months. Between 25,000 and 30,000 tons of fish died in December and more now .
Researchers in Iceland are blaming due to lack of oxygen in the fjord thought to have been caused by a landfill and bridge constructed across the fjord in December 2004.
We are upset on such incidents and searching the real cause behind the death of millions of herring?

So sad and disturbing... I agree with Aman. Global warming seems to be the reason behind these tragic events. I also think that the problem might be related with the ocean current around Iceland. I really hope scientists find the actual cause of the problem

This is very sad. In Kenya we face a similar problem in you freshwater lake called Lake victoria. Over here many fish have died tot he the lack of oxygen and increased rapid growth of algae in our water. These are the deadly effects of eutrophication.

It is really sad.......i hope we continually learn and grow in the upcoming days

I'm really sorry to see this...This kind of disaster often comes up on Korea , since the fishery is a big industry in Korea as well..

Yes Aman, the increase of temp. may be one of the reason for such situation. Let us see view of other friends.

EdoFirdausi, thanks for your view. We are also looking for the reasons.

and also, it was in island so there is less chance of water pollution being the major reason. the global warming maybe the major culprit because the icelands were cool some decades ago. but the water is getting warmer day by day and the ice is melting so the fishes who cannot adapt to these anthropogenic changes are dying.
Posted 11-02-2013 03:30
thanks EdoFirdausi. you pointed right. wastes from industries also kill aquatic life. and maybe all of us are right. there may be several reasons which caused this. really we are not doing right with animals. and my friends from india: have you watched the film "Makkhi" . it shows how a housefly can disturb us. i think if we keep disturbing animals and acquiring or say in hindi "kabja karna " then one day they will get together and kill us. we are destroying the habitats of all other living creatures and they are getting endangered. so, they can do anything to save their lives.
Beware Humans!

after watching this news, so many reason why this can happen. First, i agree with your statement mr. Aman Agrawal. Maybe the fishes get poison from waste environmental surrounding area. So how about you ? mrs rajashree, What is your solution about this ?

Thanks Unmesh for your comments. We are also trying to get the real cause behind the dieing of millions of fishes. The water level of the lake was found low.

If it only because of lack of oxygen, then why only specific type of fish is the victim? May be something related to herring food supply?
Posted 10-02-2013 20:49
Yes Kehkashan, The new is very disturbing.
Posted 10-02-2013 12:14
Thank you Aman, for raising your concern. Hope we will get the reason behind such mass die.

Really disturbing news!

because of us, they are dying
what is their Fault????
why are they losing their lives? because of our greed???
Our greed is taking their lives so we should control ourselves
Posted 10-02-2013 02:54
maybe because of increasing ocean temperatures due to global warming. i have already reported on world report that 93.45 of the increased heat is absorbed by the oceans.
those little fishes cannot survive in the resulting warm Water
REally very sad to see those sweet little lives dying and the culprits are we humans.
Save Them
