According to wikipedia, ecovillages are intentional communities with the goal of becoming more socially, economically and ecological sustainable.
A Norwegian project called Terra Libera ?ogrend project was launched to develop the ideas of constructing these ecovillages. So far, there have been three eco villages established in Norway. Terra Libera ?ogrend and Gravdal ?olandsby are currently being developed and the third ?olandsbyen is already established and running successfully. They all have a common principle which is to build a community based around ideas of environmental sustainability and permaculture. They exploit natural sources of energy such as solar, wind and wave energy. Houses and buildings are built on natural and sustainable materials such as wood, clay and straw. All habitants will actively take part to build and create this environment with a communal responsibility to maintain the running of the village.
Similar to eco village developments are the Camp Hill Villages, inspired by the ideas of philosopher and anthroposofer Rudolf Steiner. Camp Hill provide challenged individuals with various types of disabilities to live meaningful lives within a family and community where everyone take part in the running of the village. The villages are usually run on a biodynamical basis where they try to be as self-sufficient as possible. There is today a total of seven Camp Hill in Norway.
Hopefully, there will be more initiatives to build ecovillages or ecofarms like this, not only in Norway but all over the world.
