French nuclear tests in Algeria

Colonial France carried out its nuclear tests, three gerbils February 13, 1960 in Reggane, in the Saharan regions difficult to clean of radioactivity, said Saturday in Adrar an expert in nuclear physics.

"The nuclear test was conducted by colonial France in the sixties (1960) open in the Saharan regions, difficult to clean radioactive emanations devastating effects to persist for thousands of years," said in a statement APS, El-Abboudi Kadham, a researcher in nuclear physics.

He noted that radioactive materials are "the most dangerous pollutants on the environment and climate as containing a mixture of deadly toxins produced dozens of dangerous radioactive products for health and the environment."

According to him, the French nuclear tests that had reached their peak after four trials in a region Saharan open up potential "100 times that of the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and the direct effects were identified in distant places in the region (South of Europe and the Ocean), plus showers carriers of radioactive materials stored Saharan and clouds reaching other parts of the world. Nuclear tests need to be minimised . They damage the environment alot.

The negative effects of nuclear tests are colossal. They must be controlled, rater stopped.

Thank you so much for your report. It's certainly great to have an awareness on nulear weapons as well as tests, which are critical to our environment and safety.

I believe places like Hiroshima and Nagasaki has not fully recovered from the atomic bombs during the world war, and now talking of testing of another one that is 100 times in magnitude than that of the Hiroshima. Nuclear energy should be harnessed for power generation alone. thank you Zara

Nuclear test is a critical issue and needs to be addressed seriously. It is worrying to know the French nuclear tests in Algeria impacting living beings and environment as a whole. Government should take decisions and actions to avoid such nuclear tests in coming days.
Thank you for sharing dear Sara.

Why is there so much fuss in highly technical nuclear science and digging of earth to get this magic black liquid which does harm us, when still we have plentiful of sun everywhere, water and winds. Such nulcear test doubtlessly have profound effect in environment and health. Such activities should be shunned. Is it still being conducted?

Nuclear weapons testing can have negative impacts on the environment. They can make plants, soil and rain radioactive. This is extremely harmful to humans. Radioactivity can cause mutations in humans and animals.

after 56 years on these tests, radiation still a healthy and environmentally nightmare in the Algerian desert, thanks for the report :) , I have also written on this matter

Nuclear tests are very sensitive in nature to begin with. If not conducted extremely carefully, such activities will not only lead to the destruction of the natural environment but also the destruction of all living creatures.
Even the aftereffects of nuclear activities conducted a few decades ago still linger as of today. In addition to causing mutation to animals, plants and residents near affected areas.

Nuclear tests are the potential threats. They should be discouraged.

Such nuclear tests have adverse effects on health and environment in , on and above the earth. As they trigger tsunamis, landslides and earthquakes, cause physical damage to the reef, vent out gaseous and volatile fission Products and poisoning effects on aquatic animals too.
All nations and global leaders should have a moral, social and political responsibility not to use nuclear power for causing harm to humans or any living forms. Thanks for the post.
