Say NO! to beverage cartons

Tetra Pak Indonesia is a packaging producer that works along side ecoBali to maximise the recycling of recyclable beverage cartons. These cartons include cartons of milk, juices, tea and others. Other than that, Tetra Pak Indonesia and ecoBali also works to increase awareness on waste disposal, recycling and renewable resources.

I learned about Tetra Pak Indonesia from a mall that I go to on the weekends. Tetra Pak Indonesia have installed a stall in the mall where the mall visitors can drop in their beverage cartons in their recycling box. The curiosity inside me built up and I did some research on them to learn more about them.

What I found in ecoBali?s website about it is that since the establishment of this program (Tetra Pak Recycling) in 2007, more than 600 tonnes of these beverage cartons have been collected and sent to recycling facilities such as Temesi (local waste recovery facility) and Jimbaran Lestari (local waste recovery facility). They currently have an average of 24 tonnes/month of monthly collection and recycling rate in the southern part of Bali.

Tetra Pak Indonesia and ecoBali has also visited local schools to teach the students how to dispose of waste properly by using the 3 Rs and teaching them the importance of using renewable resources. The schools that are involved in the programme are also provided with a collection service where the students can collect their beverage carton and be sent to the recycling centre with the help of Tetra Pak Indonesia and ecoBali.

Hotels have also been joining on the programme. Considering that hotels produces a lot of beverage carton waste, they are providing a huge amount of resource for recycling. Participating hotels also have awareness sessions to help them recognise the best way to dispose waste.

Patricia, thanks for sharing about Tetra Pak Indonesia. I would be glad if I could hear explanations about 3R is, for our dear reporters and ones who might not know the concept but would like to be informed. I agree recycling is necessary when usable resources are limited. I also heard that hotels could save resources such as not furnishing disposable shampoos and soap, or asking guests to reuse their towels until the next day. Keep up the good work :-)

Recycling is an important component in saving our environment. I am really glad that Ecobali and Tetra Pak has joined efforts to promote and carry out recycling. As hotels produce so much waste every single day, their collaborative efforts will definitely make a positive impact on the environment. Great job on the report!

The recycling and awareness efforts of Tetra Pak Indonesia and ecoBali are indeed appreciable. They are spreading awareness and involving many more people in their recycling movement. Hotels which are one of the biggest source of plastic (or even beverage carton) waste, are joining them-is a great step towards green Indonesia. Thanks for sharing.

Hotels joining the project sounds like a big support! I once read how much waste a four? or five star hotel produces a day, and it was ridiculous. All that fancy things do have a price to pay. Glad to hear there are hotels that agree with good intentions and keep up the good work!
