Micro-dust emitted from cooking generates lung cancer

Hello, ladies and gentleman, this is the ambassador of South Korea. It's a great pleasure to meet all of you guys with the same topic environment. I am really looking forward to our fruitful communication and debate. This is my first article for this 16th ambassador term. Today, I would like to introduce kind of interesting article that I read Micro-dust emitted from cooking generates lung cancer.

Lung cancer. Normally, people would think it as an illness occurred to male due to smoking. However, these days the rate of woman lung cancer is increasing. As mentioned before, this is because of the micro dust that is emitted from cooking. The below chart shows the research conducted from 'National Cancer Center',

graph

The red line shows woman, blue is man, and green is combined. The graph states the number of lung cancer patient out of 100000 people. Compared to 1999, 5.4% increased in 2013. The important thing is that approximately 87.8% of female cancer patients had not smoked. According to Seoul National University medical college, this is because females are exposed to toxic material generated when cooking. 'National Institute of Environmental Research' conducted a research on this, and concluded that the rate of fine dust concentration when cooking is 70 times higher compared to normal days. When we cook fish, the concentration of ultrafine particles were 3,480¥ìg/§©. The air of normal house rated  49¥ìg/§©. Also, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, formaldehyde and many other toxic substance were emitted.

To reduce this, as you might assume, we should open the window so that cooking place can be ventilated. If there is no window, we must use ventilation hood, which can reduce concentration rate ten times compared to normal rate. In addition, the fact that we must clean the filter correctly is important.

I believe that for mothers, this news would be very shocking. Therefore, for this month, I hope you to be aware of this fact and let your parents understand it.

Thanks a lot.

ChaeYun, just after reading your article I automatically stood up and opened all the windows in my house. It is a shocking news that our mothers are exposed to possible lung cancers. We'd better inform this to people, and tell them to periodically ventilate the kitchen and the rooms. Thanks for sharing, and keep up the good work :-)
