|LATIN AMERICA| Air Pollution |

I have seen interesting news regarding air pollution in China. One citizen made bricks with dust in the air. I was so surprise at how serious pollution is in China. There is a report of air quality in Latin America and shows the toxic threat of air pollution is not only Asia problems.
The air pollution has reached at the dangerous level already from Mexico to Argentina. People in Latin America breathe polluted air and climate change is ongoing.
The area of São Paulo, Santiago, and the metropolitan area of Mexico City are the most affected by anthropogenic pollutant emissions among the Latin America urban areas. 26.5% of the total urban population of Latin America has been exposed to air-pollutant levels above the limits recommended by WHO (World Health Organization) guidelines.
However, there is good news that there are international standards and optimal practices to solve these problems. Chile has approved a regulation of the emissions of NO2, SO2 and PM2.5 from vehicles. In addition to set up new guideline, it is necessary to keep monitoring of the air quality and report the data.
Encouraging the cleaner modes of transportation is important but removing the dirty diesel fuel, which create the air pollution, has to be preceded. Renewable energy is glowing in the regions such as Brazil, Chile and Mexico. I hope that these solution is effective and work well.

The problem with pollution is that it is usually not contained in just one place but it spreads. For example, as you mentioned China's case, the polluted air flies over the sea and affects neighboring countries like Korea and Japan. 50% of PM 2.5 in Korea is reported to have originated in China. Also, I believe the concept of renewable energy has to be more precisely determined as we've witnessed in bio fuel case, what is believed to be green may turn out to be causing collateral damage. Thank you for your report Luiz! hope you have a good day :D

Making bricks out of dust is such a sustainable solution to air pollution. You are right, dirty fuel should be completely eliminated(though slowly)with introduction of clean fuel based transportation. Glad to note that emission guidelines and policies are being put in Chile. Thanks for the report.

Renewable energy is no doubt expensive these days but costs are coming down. Here govt can play a proactive role by introducing plans & incentives for the users.
In the long run sustainable energy will prevail.
Well reported Luiz.

Luiz, developing renewable energy source has been urgent to all nations, especially ones that are struggling with high level of pollution. Making bricks out of dust is a shocking fact but can also be one of the ways to reduce air pollution. Diverse sources of renewable energy are being developed, but there should be lucrative incentives such as government subsidies to enable them to be employed in daily life. Thanks for reporting and have a great day :-)
