My Favorite Green Government is Morocco

by | 27-10-2016 04:49 recommendations 0

Morocco is my favorite government in Africa, in terms of green initiatives. Globally, I think Sweden and the UAE is doing so well. My preference for Morocco is embedded in their ability to see the economic important of green economies. Most African countries in Africa, sees green investments not viable for economic developments. Most often, green technologies are perceived to be expensive and costly while many resort to other methods of development which later ruin the life of people and the planet.

\

It is quite difficult for governments to acquire funds for green projects – most funded projects are likely to be some other form of infrastructural development rather than an eco-friendly project. Ghana?s coal power plant proposal, for instance, was being funded by the Asian Development Bank. In Africa, South Africa is one of the countries with a lot of solar firms and private solar sector. Recently we have good news, Nigeria was able to draw a power partnership which is going allow the country to commence a large solar plant (starting with a 75MW) for its citizens and Morocco is doing way better.

Morocco is housing the largest solar plant in the World, the Quarzazate has an estimated 580 Megawatts. Additionally, as part of the government?s initiative towards climate action in Morocco, the government announced a makeover of all urban mosques to go green. This project allows mosques to have a solar power supply, energy saving lightening systems, and other eco-friendly initiatives.          Over 1,000 mosques are going to benefit from this makeover.

I believe that if all African countries were to adopt such great strategies and initiatives, then Africa will be a great and green continent.

A large percentage of our greenhouse gas emission can be attributed to power generation. Hence, this fact that Morocco had been doing such movement is really uplifting. Thank you for letting us know.

Thanks for sharing, Joshua! It is good to know that Morocco's putting a lot of efforts on green initiatives, like having the world's largest solar plant. Though green strategies may be expensive, they can contribute to the national economy at the long run. Have a great day: )
