Climate Change vs. Donald Trump, President of the US |

The ballots are in, and the results were announced: Donald Trump became the new President of the United States. Sadly, climate change was not as hot of a topic during the presidential debates as it should have been for climate change is one of the most pressing, and detrimental challenges facing us at this time. The results of the election were a disappointment for most, if not at, environmentally-concerned citizens for Donald Trump has spoken throughout his campaign on his belief that climate change is not a real problem and should take no priority in his agenda. He is actually so against the plans to improve the environmental conditions that he has stated that he will "cancel" the Paris Climate Agreement and "stop all payments to UN global warming programmes."
Not only would these actions be detrimental for the environment and most likely lead to increases in the climate crisis, but they would also denounce the United States' status in the eyes of the other countries throughout the world. Most countries, especially the leading third-world countries, are on board with improving policies to become more environmentally-friendly. Throughout all of history, the United States has always been a key player in international policies and has been thought of as a leader, one for the other countries to model after. However, with Donald Trump leading, this status could greatly be degraded and leave the United States trailing behind as other countries become more "green." With the new President and Vice President disbelieving in the scientific facts of the climate crisis, environmental groups and activists have become not only saddened, but also frustrated and hopeless that their actions will not be able to overcome this barrier. However, it is important, especially at these times, to not give up on the struggle. No one can deny environmental activists resilience to adversity as they are constantly fighting against the government and so many of their own citizens to spread awareness and positive change, and one can only hope that their determination will remain. Throughout all of history, there comes a time with each great struggle, such as the Civil Rights and Women's Suffrage Movements, where the government can no longer ignore the complaints and cries of its people. They may try to ignore or block out the noise, but eventually the ringing becomes too loud and they work to quiet it. That is when we will win. And with this win, we will rejoice, the environment will rejoice, all the world will rejoice.

Thanks for sharing, Anna! I also never believed Trump had the single probability to be elected, but the result was a total shock. Though he argued he will cancel the agreement, since his words are keep changing after election, I hope there be positive changes in the states. Have a great day : )

I don't think Donald Trump is going to be beneficial for The US in anything related to climate change

I watched the election with much interest and the result was rather surprising. I'm sure most of our ambassadors would have felt the same. In terms of climate change, i'm worried that the new president might turn over what has been practiced and believed until now. Thanks for posting and sharing your view

I was also perturbed upon hearing about the victory of a leader who is so much against 'Climate Change'. Donald Trump has said that one of the top priorities for his presidency would be to remove the United States from international agreements to curb greenhouse gas emissions. This is so so sad. Let's hope that wisdom prevails upon him and all such global leaders who still feel that 'Climate Change' is a myth and unreal.
