Water Pollution

Hello everyone, I am really sorry for the late report, I had some unavoidable personal problems.

Water Pollution is a critical health and environmental issue just recently getting awareness in Ethiopia. Ethiopia as most know is a very fertile and naturally blessed country with many water bodies.

Generally, the concern of water pollution is the contamination of water bodies.  Unlike most industries areas in other parts of the world the large percent of contamination of water bodies in Ethiopia doesn?t come from industrial waste , rather the human sewage and trash are what contaminate the water bodies.

Recently, after many cases of health problems due to consumption of contaminated water, the authorities have started to take measures to clean up the water sources for civilians. One measure is that authorities have made powdered chemicals that clear the water of harmful substances when apply easily available for civilians. Secondly, the water supply pipes and systems seem to have been fixed as there was a recent cut of water supply for a short time due to repairs and improvements.

All in all, the concept of clean water is one that has been starting just recently and is seeing some helpful contributions to the betterment of the national water sources. However, water sources that are not used for consumption are still not given as equal attention as deserved and needed.

Hello Everyone, thanks for the comments. I am not sure what exactly the chemicals are but I think the powder is similar to that of the one bottled water companies use to purify water. It is generally used to make unsafe water usable by using the powder to clear the water of harmful organisms.

Hi Dawit, good to see that Ethiopia is taking initiatives to control water pollution. Just like, Daon na, I wonder that powdered chemicals have a long term impact and also cause imbalance in food chains in the in-situ ecosystem.

Dawit, thank you for your report. I am a bit of relieved to hear that water pollution in Ethiopia is mainly not caused by industrial waste, but by the human. I wouldn??t say it would be an easy job, but still as long as the government succeeds on raising awareness of the people, the issue would get much better! I hope you get to see a progress soon.

Hi Dawit! Thanks for sharing water pollution status in Ethiopia.
Among what you've mentioned, I'm bit curious and doubtful about powdered chemicals. Do you know what is it made of by any chance? I'm afraid that it might have any potential dangers regarding water and human health in a long term.
    Thanks for sharing again!

Environmental pollution is wholly the problem in overall developing nations globally because it comes in less priority compared to other needs and demand . The only way to push it back is to pull environemntal factor to upper hierarchy caring less the luxurious factor and wants.
