Soil is the earth for living things; mankind, biodiversity and many living creatures. We need food, shelter and place to live healthily and happily. How do you think which thing is giving these things. Of course, soil. Soil is more powerful than you think. At university, what I learn about the soil is that the soil has nutrient which is needed to grow for the plant.
In planting agricultural crops, after you plant the paddy, you can¡¯t grow another paddy after you reaping the previous one. You have to plant another crop plant like pea in order to fill the protein for the soil. For our forest tree species, if you plant mono crop in one field, you can grow them for a short year and you have to abandon that field after cutting down the tree because the soil can¡¯t give protein to another tree plants. You have to wait for many years to recover the soil. If you don¡¯t like that condition, you should choose many plant species to plant together which must have mutual relationship. And then the biomass which is the leaf falling from the trees will decay and these will give nutrient to the soil again. So that in order to protect the soil, many professionals presented shifting cultivation is bad and we should use sustainable plantation methods like choosing seasonal crops which is fit with soil properties and recovering the soil. After raining, we need soil to absorb the rainwater in order not to encounter the event of flooding. Nowadays, in the urban cities, many buildings are covering the soil and to touch the soil with our feet become rarer things. Our body is organized with four elements, soil, water, air and heat according to the Bible. To get food, we need soil to plant. For the place, we also need soil to build. Soil is different in color according to the topography. In Myanmar, the highland regions are covered with highly leached, iron-rich, dark red and reddish brown soils. The lowland regions are covered with alluvial soils, mainly silt and clay. In the dry central region, red brown soils rich in calcium and magnesium are found. Therefore, healthy soil can give more nutritious food for our living things and helps the environment to be cleaned. |

Thank you for your report Hnin about the nature of the soil.
You have mentioned the soil of Thailand. As soil varies from place to place, crops suited for the soil and there management practices do vary. Due to variance of geography in the context of Nepal too different types of soil are found in the mountain, hill and terai region with soil of the terai region being most fertile which is also know as the basket of Nepal.
Hope to see many more interesting reports from you in coming days. I am excited to learn many more things about Thailand.
Wishing you happy and prosperous New Year 2019.

Hello Hnin
The impact of mono culture to the condition of soils show that how methodology can actually cause difference.
As Joonho Mentor said, due the the demand quantity in the market, monoculture is being done in various places, and if it is hard to ban it completely immediately, a complementary methods for better management could be of help.
Thanks for the report!

Hello Hnin, monoculture has been criticized for deteriorating soil and relative region around it. Though we know that it affects deeply in a short time, we could not get away from this farming strategies since we had to provide certain types of crop more to export them to other countries.
If we do have better ways to sustain monoculture, then we should do that off forest, not killing trees and creatures living beneath them.
Thanks for your report :)

Hey there Hnin!
Soil is an important source of life. It is true that soil hold a tremendous amount of nutrients for the growth of plants/crops. Having one kind of vegetation ploughed does more than just drain nutrients, it costs crop producers years of food and profit.
I concur seasonal fruit/crop rotations should be done in order to nurture the soil and sustain the nutrients. Sustainable practice is key for agricultrural growth.
Thank you for your insightful report! I really look forward to see your next report!
Yours sincerely
R.
