Views of Youths on "Covid and Environment" during Twitter Chat (Campaign) (Free Report)

by Kushal Naharki | 03-05-2020 17:15 recommendations 0

I feel glad to share about our platform of TunzaEcoGeneration during the Twitter Chat with the youth participants from the various parts of the world. In this report, I will be sharing the view of youths from different parts of the world on the topic of  ¡°Covid19 and Environment¡± that they shared during the Twitter Chat

Youth Voice on Covid19 and Environment

दिब्या(µö¾ß)-@Divine_Tweets:

We can start from where we are with what we have and use the social media for something better! We can spread positive vibes via our social media campaigns and webinar to raise awareness in our circle about environment related issues !our small effort can make a big difference! Growing own vegetable and foods in kitchen garden during this pandemic was one of the impressive one for me!It contributes to better environment and health! Positive impact of this scenario is reduced carbon emissions and reduced pollution level, cleaner and greener cities, reduced wastes!

Zayithwa - @zayithwa:

I have come to appreciate my garden, the birds that chirp every morning and the cool breeze. I have also noticed all the trash outside my house, the climate change and how it is affecting my life. I have time to notice, appreciate and do something to improve my environment.

Now that we have restrictions in movement we have become more aware of our environment. Positively in that we can appreciate it and conserve it. Negatively by realising how much we have depleted natural resources and destroyed the environment.

Fun online challenges can be created to make people more interested in environment conservation activities e.g. plant a tree challenge, recycle your waste challenge etc

Philbert Aganyo- @Paganyo:

So I bet it is a time of Reflection both ways.. reminiscing about just how much damage may have been made, and how much potential there is for regeneration?

In Kenya, a call has been made by the Ministry of ICT for Youthful Innovations towards helping the fight of #COVID19. I believe the same can be done towards Environmental conservation as the Youth are leading in Fresh imagination & Creativity.

Oindo Isaac- @oindoisaac1

At a time like this there is need for effective management of biomedical and health care wastes since a lot of medical and hazardous wastes are generated including infected masks, gloves and other protective equipment¡¯s. This is essential to the environment.

We can still keep-check our duty bearers, continue creating awareness about the effects and governance aspects of climate change  especially at a time like this when we are living under conditions of uncertainty due to inconsistencies in Climate information.

Baki Baki- @antoneybaki:

Covid 19 mitigations have just taught that it's possible to preserve our environment. Same way govt can impose lockdown it's pretty same thing they can do to promote afforestation or mandatory clean up policies. This will go along way helping activitists realize goals.

At such times when most manufacturing operations are halted, companies emitting C02 should be rethinking ways of cleaning their mess. The atomspher is part of our environment which is very important. Failure to deal with this is inviting global warming and it's consequences.

jel mallari- @jacqmallari :

We should care about the environment whether there is a crisis or not. We owe it to the earth to protect is for giving us so much. Today we see how, when GHG emissions are decreased, the earth heals. I think this is something we need to sustain even after this pandemic. However, nowadays we are also faced with increase waste due to the use of disposable masks and gloves. Whereas, we cannot prohibit nor discourage its use, we should advocate for proper disposal. And also support the use of recycled materials in making this protective equipment.

Frankly, the youth seems to have the most active role in protecting the earth. We have the knowledge, the voice, the energy to do things for the environment. However, what we lack is authority for wider implementations of our advocacy. That's why we have to keep demanding from the government and big organizations to allot resources for environmental projects. Technology is a double-edged sword BUT we can use it to our advantage. Most environmental solutions involve technological innovations.

Rolfe Josephat Wefafa- @RolfeJae:

Lockdown doesn't mean trash manufacturing is also on lockdown. No, households are very busy manufacturing trash. The advantage here now is that there's enough time to plan on how best the trash in those collection centres can be handled. I do mushroom growing and I recommend it.

Hannifa Kut- @hannipher:

It is inspiring that even during #Covid_19 pandemic, behind closed doors, advocacy like the #InMyVoice challenge by @vanessa_vash on #ClimateAction and knowledge pull like #YLAChat have still taken root, being a force to reckon with & enlightening on how we have to keep going.

Thank you everyone for your participation during the twitter chat and sharing your views.

Stay Safe.

Green Cheers !!!!
