Sahara Forest Project

by HASSAN ABUBAKAR MUHAMMAD | 23-02-2022 00:23 recommendations 0

Sahara Forest Project is a project that aims to provide fresh water, food, and renewable energy in hot arid regions as well as re-vegetating areas of uninhabited desert.

The founding team was composed of Seawater Greenhouse Ltd, Exploration Architechture, Max Fordham Consulting Engineers, and the Bellona Foundation.

The proposed technology combines saltwater-cooled greenhouses with solar power technologies, either directly using photovoltaic (PV) or indirectly using concentrated solar power and technologies for desert re-vegetation.

It is claimed that these technologies will create a sustainable and profitable source of food, energy, and water.

What do you think about this project?
Do you think it would be possible to turn our dry, barren deserts into green vegetations?
Would projects like this help adress food insecurity and help fight climate change?

Hello Hassan, this is your mentor Hannah.

It may be so difficult to change the nature. However maybe technology CAN change it.

Thank you for your great article and please keep up with your wonderful work :)

    Sincerly,

Hello Hassan, this is your mentor Joon.

Though I have seen cases which people used fossil fuels to provide energy required for vegetations and making purifies water, this is my first time seeing an approach making electricity with 100 per cent sustainable energy source, solar power. If this project successes then it could be a positive examples which could affect other country's policy decision in huge scale. I hope the experiments succeeds, but even if it does not hope it could show us some possibility.

Well read your article, and let's keep up!

    Best,

    Joon

This sounds very interesting. I am curious whether the government there will fund it or whether there is an incentive for private companies to build it, and what the cost would be.

Technology is the thing that can make us or destroy us. It's only in our hands to make the best use of it.
