Sustainability is a way of living and an effective solution to one of the biggest environmental problems of our time. As several of our resources are getting scares due to continuous exhaustible while also leaving tonnes of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste apart. It's time for us to TAKE ACTION rather than TALK!
According to UNEP Food Waste Index Report 2021, about 931 million tonnes of food waste was generated in the year 2019 of which 61% of waste comes from households, 26% from food service, and 13% from retail. This food waste when dumped into landfill or left open contributes to about 8 - 10% of global greenhouse emissions. Have you ever wondered how you can contribute towards its reduction at a very small scale in an affordable way? Well, if not then, the right time to think and take action is now. Let's learn about two ways in which you can recycle your food waste to make something valuable.
Our kitchen waste containing green waste such as vegetable and fruit peels is rich in nitrogen and phosphorus. This waste which is dumped into the garbage, can be used to make Organic Fertilizers. Organic Fertilizers increase the soil's efficiency to hold water, and nutrients as well as sustain microbes. For making an organic fertilizer we need four things: Green Waste, Dried Leaves, Microbes, and Containers.
The following are the steps to be followed for making Organic Fertilizers at home:
Another valuable product that we can make from Kitchen waste is Bio Enzyme. Bio Enzyme is an organic cleaner made from the fermentation process of fruit peels. Bio Enzyme helps in the reduction of plastic waste, and water pollution by avoiding the usage of chemical cleaners. For making a Bio Enzyme, we need: Citrus Fruit Peels, Jaggery, and Container.
The following are the steps to be followed for making Bio Enzyme (Organic Cleaner) at home:
Both these solutions can be installed at home with very less money, effort, and time. So what are you waiting for? Take Action Now!!!! Play your small part in reduction of Food Waste because doing nothing better than doing 1%.

Hello Shreya! This is your mentor James!
First of all, so sorry for the late comment!
I appreciate all the given information above regarding building our own organic fertilizers and bio enzyme cleaners! Current food waste production have been faster than any other time in history. Larger population results in larger waste products, thus the larger need for recycling. I hope other ambassadors take a look at your report to gain information!
Thanks for the meaningful report! Looking forward to reading your next one!
