While the world howls to reject the omnipresent plastic in our day to day life, Dubai Municipality is reviewing its policy on usage of bisphenol A in plastic containers. This is yet another commendable step towards sustainable environment. Friends, you may ask what is bisphenol A? Bisphenol A is a carbon-based synthetic compound used in plastic containers. Studies have linked long exposure of bisphenol A to liver and pancreatic dysfunction and as a likely risk factor when it comes to increased rates of obesity and the onset of type-2 diabetes. How to find it. Take any plastic bottle & turn it upside down. If there is a small triangle with number 7, there are chances that it contains bisphenol A Canada is the first nation to ban its use in baby bottles in 2010. Next year it was banned in EU nations as well. But this was done only for baby bottles, whereas this material is used in most hard plastics like interior of cars, sports & medical equipment, CD cases, inside of food & drink cans. While the authorities are doing their part, we students can look for these containers & advise our parents to avoid them. We may make a beginning. Lets? all start this practice from today. I try to use eco-friendly Grade 1 or 2 containers only. The idea is to reuse so as to minimize load on landfills

Thanks for sharing such an informative article! I never knew plastic bottles that have a "7" in a small triangular recycling sign contain Bisphenol A, which is very harmful to our health! I will make sure to be aware of that! Great work!
