Discoveries of Exotic Animals in 2013

by | 13-01-2014 17:44 recommendations 0

According to the article, "Biggest new animal discoveries of 2013", many new species were discovered or identified after genetic analysis in 2013. These include new tapir discovered in Amazon, new marsupial in Ecuador, new mountain porcupine and cat species in Brazil among others. The regions where new species have been discovered include South America such as Brazil and Ecuador, Asia such as Laos and Sri Lanka, Africa and the Pacific region including Australia. These regions may have preserved natural environments which could provide good conditions for these species to survive without being extinct. I find this as a testament on how important it is to preserve the natural environment not to threat the lives of natural animals and species.

One specie that I found most interesting animal on this website: http://news.mongabay.com/2013/1223-top-new-species-2013.html#wwftw131230 was Caroline's mole rat, which is scientifically named as "Fukomys vandewoestijneae". This specie was found in the regions of Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Zambia.

I was especially captivated by this animal because this specie resembled Disney's animation character, mole rat, which appeared in Kim Possible. I used to really find Kim's mole rat really cute and adorable. I was fascinated when I found an animation character in real life! Have a look at the two pictures that are below this article. The picture at the top is a mole rat that appeared in Kim Possible. The picture at the bottom is a mole rat that exists in several regions of Africa.

Efforts made by scientists should also be recognized in that they have contributed to making these discoveries possible through their research and genetic analyses on those species' relation with and distinction from existing ones. These new developments will not only enlarge our knowledge base on species living on earth but provide useful information and data on how a certain environmental condition facilitates the dwelling of specific species and fill up some missing links in species tress and genetic mapping. In this sense, we should continue our efforts to discover and identify more and more new species and to protect their dwelling conditions.

Thanks a lot for sharing this information about discovery of organisms. But what's more important is that either we can preserve them or not?

It is really important to discover new organisms to learn more about mother nature, but it's important too to preserve the ones that we already know.

The mole rat looks pretty interesting :D
I agree that discovering and identifying new organisms is important
in order to achieve our goal of further conservation and scientific development.
I am thrilled to know that there are more animals and plants being known these days
of course, many are getting extinct as well
