The Emirates Environmental Group is an UN recognised NGO in the UAE and does sterling work in creating awareness about the environment . It periodically organises community lectures for the public , during which , eminent speakers and personalities share their work and vision on the various aspects of environment , sustainability and climate . Past lecturers have included intrepid polar explorer Robert Swan , the Green Shaikh , Environment expert Richard Nates to name a few.
As a long standing member of this organisation , I make it a point to not only to attend these lectures but also share my learnings with my peers and classmates. This evening , another such lecture was organised wherein the speaker was Ms. Julia Hofsetter . She is the Head of Department , Climate Education at 'myclimate' , Switzerland and it was truly amazing to hear her speak on how we can work towards a low-carbon society. She gave real life examples on her work in Switzerland and how her organisation works with the industries and the society , in general , to reduce carbon emissions. She spoke on her projects which included climate friendly meals , carbon offsetting , recycling campaigns and in general on how she has worked to educate and empower children to work towards a sustainable future.
The things I learnt today will help in the workshops I conduct for school children on sustainability and reduction of carbon footprint .
