Going Green

by | 30-06-2014 21:24 recommendations 0

Look upon the past. It hasn't been long since the world was covered by layers of soft snow. Icicles stopping ever so sharply at the end of our roofs. A whirl of cold seeking into out body - into every gap and every hole. Our bones chattering from the cold, our body becoming a part of the coldness. A part of the winter, the snow, and the ice. Growing deeper, growing closer to the end.

And yet, at some point, it wasn't the way things were supposed to be. Before we saw a tip of green or even a tiny sign of warmness, we felt something. Different. Soon enough, leaves sprouted out from the budds hardened throughout the winter.

Floweres blossomed

and faded out.

And it got warmer and warmer..

It still doesn't feel like 2014 to me. All too new, too different. We're already halfway through though.

It's just a matter of time till the leaves fall and ice dominates the planet. What have you done for the world till now? Anything much? Anything really helpful?

Time is short. What can you do?

Well, here are a few basic principles reported from the national environmental center.

Try them out.. before it's too late.

1. Lessen the temperature difference between outdoors and indoors.

Using air conditioners are.......yes...a problem... but not that much of a problem compared to when they are used for generating minimum power. A lot of people overuse air controllers, fans, or other cooling devices. It is hot, yes, but cooling your room will just make the rest of the world worse. If it?s like 28 or 30 degrees Celsius outside, using cooling devices to lower the temperature 1~5 degrees is helpful. There is no need to push it down 10 degrees or more. In extreme situations, nonchalant students were seen lessening the room temperature from 30C to about 13C. A total waste of energy.

An even more serious problem is that a lot of people use their cooling devices with their windows opened. Some people forget to close their windows before turning on their air conditioners. A common ?phenomenon? in classrooms. In terms of science, this is?a- a waste of money, b – a waste of time, c – harmful to the environment, and d – utterly ineffective. The atmosphere tries to mingle masses of air in order to make the total temperature consistent. Air conditioners push hot air out from individual rooms. If we use air conditioners and open our windows, the hot air pushed outside will come back into the rooms, being cooled up again. – Which can be defined as an air circulation system between the inside and the outside. A huge waste of energy.

2. Planting trees

There?s a lot of different plants that you can try out in the summer. Find a few seeds and a nice garden to grow your plants. This will reduce the amount of CO2 stored within the atmosphere.

3. Using clean transportation

Throughout the past few years, our country has been constantly developing web-routes for more subways, buses, and bike lanes. According to an article that I read a few days ago, the only way to reduce the congestion in our city is to make it harder for cars (vehicles) to move around. Main roads for cars should be lessened to only 1~2 lines and only emergency vehicles are to be allowed through small roads or corners. Although this may seem quite difficult and requires substantial development, this is the only way to really change the way things are happening.

The article also provided new methods and types of green transportation that may fit into the city?s infrastructure. Monorails may be helpful, because they do not require a lot of space, and does not interrupt roads laid out in the ground. They do not disrupt sunlight reaching the buildings below, and uses green means of transportation.

Great write up, you highlighted very genuine points like people do keep the windows open even with AC on without realising the burden this open window is putting on load of AC and hence wasting electricity. We all must go for green practices , green ways and greener lifestyle.
